Getting to the start

7 min walk from Jonggak Station (Line 1) Exit 2, or 5 min from Anguk Station (Line 3) Exit 6. From Incheon Airport, take the AREX to Seoul Station and transfer to Line 1.

   Jogyesa Temple

   Jonggak / Anguk · 40m

   The head temple of Korean Buddhism, right in the middle of downtown. Free to enter, and the old trees in the courtyard look completely different each season.

2. Walk5m

   From the temple's main gate, walk east along Ujeongguk-ro and turn into Insadong-gil. Flat the whole way.

   Ssamziegil

   Insadong · 1h

   A spiral of small craft shops built around a ramp instead of stairs — you just keep walking up to the fourth floor.

3. Walk15m

   Walk to the north end of Insadong-gil, cross Yulgok-ro at the Anguk intersection, then head up Bukchon-ro. The second half is uphill — in summer, take the Jongno 02 village bus from Anguk Station instead.

   Bukchon Hanok Village

   Not a museum village — people actually live here. Keep your voice down in the narrow lanes, and note that some streets are closed to visitors in the evening.

4. Walk12m

   Head southeast and downhill from Bukchon to Donhwamun, the palace's main gate. If you booked the Secret Garden, arrive 20 minutes before your slot.

   Changdeokgung Palace

   A UNESCO World Heritage site. The Secret Garden at the back needs a separate timed ticket with limited spots — book ahead if you want it.
