Getting to the start

Myeongdong Station (Line 4) Exit 6 puts you in the middle of the shopping street. Few shops open before noon, so start after lunch.

The route

  1. 1

    Myeongdong Street

    Myeongdong · 1h

A pedestrian shopping district packed with cosmetics and fashion stores. Few shops open in the morning; it fills up in the late afternoon.

  2. Walk12m

From Myeongdong Station Exit 3, head uphill toward the Pacific Hotel. Look for the Namsan Oreumi — a free inclined elevator that cuts the climb in half.

    2

    Namsan Cable Car

    Hoehyeon / Myeongdong · 30m

Three minutes to the top of Namsan. The station sits uphill from Myeongdong, but there's a free inclined elevator most of the way.

  3. Cable car5m

Three minutes up, then two more on foot from the upper station to the tower. Buy a round-trip ticket if you plan to ride back down — it saves queueing twice.

    3

    N Seoul Tower

    Namsan · 1h 30m

The tower you can see from anywhere in Seoul. The observatory is ticketed, but the plaza at its base is free and the view from there is already good.

  4. Bus25m

Take the Namsan circular bus 01 from the stop below the tower toward Chungmuro, then walk 5 min. Tap your transit card both getting on and getting off.

    4

    Namsangol Hanok Village

    Chungmuro · 1h

Five hanok relocated here from around the city. Unlike Bukchon nobody lives here, so you can wander and photograph freely. Free entry.
