Getting to the start
Gangneung Station
강릉역
KTX from Seoul Station to Gangneung, then a city bus or taxi. It is a little over 4km from the station — about ten minutes by taxi. It faces the sunrise, so early morning is the time; note that Gyeongpo Beach is at the other end of town, so doing both in a day means a lot of moving.

Anmok Beach
Gyeonso-dong, Gangneung · 1h 30mThe beach that made Gangneung a coffee town. It began with a row of coffee vending machines on the sand; roasteries moved in one by one, and the result is the coffee street you see now. Most seats face straight out to sea, which is why one cup tends to last a long time. The marina is right next door.

Good to do next
- Seongyojang House, GangneungGangneung · Half day
A Joseon aristocratic house lived in by one family for three centuries. It is a home, not a palace, so everything is sized to people — which makes it read nothing like the royal compounds.
- Gangneung: Ojukheon and the BeachGangneung · Full day
Two hours from Seoul by KTX and you are on the east coast. One very old house, then a 1.8km beach — one of the few sea days you can actually do and return the same day.
