Seopjikoji & Bijarim Forest

Getting to the start

Leave Jeju Airport by Gate 2 and take the 111 or 112 express bus from stand 1. They run toward Seongsan; get off at Goseong-ri and change to a local bus or taxi for Seopjikoji. The 211 that older guides mention has been discontinued.

   Seopjikoji

   Seongsan · 1h 30m

   A headland of open grassland running out into the sea. Walk to the end for the lighthouse; Seongsan Ilchulbong stays in view beside you the whole way. There is almost no shade, so midsummer afternoons are hard going, and the wind will take a hat.

2. Bus50m

   Head back to Goseong-ri and take a bus toward Gujwa, about 50 minutes. From the Bijarim stop the ticket office is three minutes on foot. Buses on the east side run roughly hourly, so for this leg a rental car or taxi is the realistic choice.

   Bijarim Forest

   Gujwa · 1h 30m

   A forest of some 2,800 nutmeg yews, most of them five to eight centuries old. The paths are laid with red volcanic scoria that crunches underfoot. They are flat enough for a pushchair, and the canopy is dense enough that rain barely reaches you.
